Hello everyone i am trying to change the impeller on my 73' 200hp johnson sea horse. i have dropped the lower unit but the shift rod seems to be keeping it from comming all the way off. does anyone know how to disconnect the shift rod?

my 1973 25hp had a small cover on the side of the lower unit housing up high that you took off and removed a screw that was connecting the linkage. We removed this and the shift rod came right out.It was a little tricky to put back though.Yours may be different.Just a thought.Hope it helps.
good luck,
Larry

76 huh allright. yeah i wasnt sure what year it is. thanks. i ended up taking the linkage apart inside the engine and unscrewing the top piece. it appears that its one piece all the way up to the linkage. it was kind of a pain but i still cant see any other way. to top it off my impeller was fine and i busted the seal at the top of the water pump.
