I have a 40 hp, 1999, 4 stroke. I haven't cranked it for 4 months. I turned key to crank and the steady alarm went off. It cranks fine...but don't see water from the pump. Can it tell when the pump is bad before it gets hot?

Re: Alarmed by alarm

Should be the oil pressure alarm...and it will stay on until the engine is running, and the oil pressure gets around 4-6 psi. This should only take a few seconds, once running.
