1982 evinrude 140

hey guys first post.new to the whole boat world just got my father in laws boat it has a 140 on it and tryed to jump start it but seems to have lack of power to the starter, cleand all connections and grounds to siloniod and starter any ideas? it has been sitting for a year sounds like a dead battery trying too turn over thats the best i can describe it ran great before he stopped using it thanks any help would be great

If you are sure the motor is OK then ya need to check the battery. I know ya said that you cleaned all the connections. But if the battery is bad or the jumper cables are not on tight it will do that. Good luck..

ok ill throw in a new battery and try it you think a car battery will crank it 600cc the old battery is 750cc

Test the battery cables (voltage drop test), they corrode from inside the sheathing and cannot carry the load.
