I recently traded an aluminum fishing boat for a 1968 Orion Mark 15T fiberglass boat with a tri-hull design. This came with a Johnson Super Seahorse model 75 (65HP).

I have been doing some research to find out more about this boat design and haven't found any info.

Does anyone else out there have a fiberglass boat that was made by Orion manufacturing from 60-70's?

The boat is in excellent shape, the motor needs some tune up and fresh gas and it should be ready to roll.

There's not a lot of info out there on your boat, I'm afraid. Like a lot of boat companies, they're gone, and with them, most of the information. Too early for the internet, and there aren't enough of them around, nor are they unique enough, to attract a collector's interest.

From the photo, it looks like a typical trihull of that era. Since it's old enough to not require a data plate, there may not be much information to be gathered.

Things to watch out for include soft decks, which may indicate structural problems under the deck. Also, transoms from boats of that era tend to be rotten. Use a rubber mallet to strike the outside of the transom and listen for dull thud sounds that may indicate rotten wood inside the transom. You can also lock the outboard up and put weight on the lower end. There should be little or no flexing of the transom.

Lots of folks are in your situation. Those trihulls of that era can make nice boats, if a little rough-riding in rough water. Inspect it carefully for structural damage and, if it's OK, enjoy the boat.
