Im sure this has came up before.

Got a pal with a Force 40 and needs to replace the starter solenoid. Automotive style is less than half the cost of a marine grade.

Opinions on using automotive style solenoid vs one from a boat parts house?

Visually they are identical, ratings they are identical.

IMOHO never use automotive parts for marine use. Auto parts are not normally made as well plus not sealed against sparks as well.

Don't know about the Force, but on a Johnson/Evinrude an auto solenoid will blow up the neutral lock-out switch because of the different grounding scheme between the 2. That might not be the case with a Force.
