How Big Is It?

I have picked up a 24 foot Party Barge of an 80's vintage. Fair shape and all of that. At some point in the past it had a trolling motor. How do I find the proper thrust and shaft length for this boat? I do plan on doing some fishing from it and want to be able to move it around a bit.

Toon trollers are generally 54-60'' and I wouldn't go any smaller than 45lbs thrust.

also go with the wireless remote trolling motor. that way you can control from any where in the boat.

Re: How Big Is It?

Good Info, thanks guys.

I have two fishing chairs at the very front and it appears that the old trolling motor was mounted in between them. I do not really see any other place to put it that would give the control I would be looking for, but have you ever heard of someone mounting one at the rear near the outboard? I am just thinking about losing that space at a busy area of the deck...

the make them with removable mounts, that just leave a plate on the deck. i have a motor guide 45lb wireless on my 20 footer, but 24 ft i would go higher thrust.

I made my own bracket and mounted the trolling motor in the rear,, I use it all the time.

Re: How Big Is It?

Anyone have pictures of homemade, removable brackets?
I am trying to figure out a way to rig up my dad's 20' Odyssey pontoon with a
transom-mount trolling motor....on the bow.
Ideally, when I am not using it to bass fish, I'd like to be able to pop it off and
not leave anything in the way for mom and pop to trip over.
Is this possible?
I am sure it is...I have some ideas, but I am not real creative, nor do I have a
a machine shop or at my disposal.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am looking at trolling motors and am wondering if it is better to have more thrust or the auto pilot feature? Auto pilot seems interesting.

Thanks!

Re: How Big Is It?

If I were putting a trolling motor on MY pontoon, I would definitely go auto!
But, since this is my parents' pontoon (I have an old Ski Nautique), I am
putting an old hand-me-down, transom mount on it so I can fish.

I was thinking about some type of home-made transom on an L-bracket that
I can affix to the front deck. I was hoping someone had been down this road
so I don't have to re-invent the wheel. Surely someone has made such a
mount/bracket before...one that, ideally, could be popped on and off so that
there is not a permanent fixture sticking up on the front of the boat. I was
thinking that if I could affix a permanent channel under the front deck, it would
be possible to insert the transom assembly, much like a removable trailer hitch. Any ideas?
