They're danm near the Exact same drives,+ are Completely Interchangeable...

And,...
It's 24 Years old,.... What makes you think it would be Original,..??
Drives are swapped All the time....

That serial number is an 85, and it's an MR. Alpha's didn't start till 86.

my grandpa bought it new and i've been around it all my life it's the original outdrive.

anyway I was just curious because this guy was nearly arguging with me over the phone that it was a alpha 1.

I said I checked by running the serial number and mercruiser says by that it's an 85 MR drive.

he said "well my computer or book? say's after serial number 625577 they became alpha 1's and yours is 68 something..

I know I asked this before I was just confused with a well known marine mechanic telling me it was an alpha one..made me wonder well maybe he's right.

doesn't sound like it tho, thanks

Download the oem service manual (#6) from the Adults only sticky.
Then look at page 2 (Models covered in this manual)
Personally, I used Mercs dealer computer program to find what it is.
