Hey everyone, don't really know much about boats but I just had a 16ft Eldocraft with a 1982 Mercury Thunderbolt 50hp given to me. I know the boat has been siting outside partially exposed to elements and hasn't been ran in 6+years. I'm planning on gutting the boat and restoring it just for a john boat to use. I was wondering what could be done about the motor, I'd like to use it. I have no idea on where to start, should I dismount and take to a marina? Does it even sound like it could be worth trying to get running? I was told the last time it ran it would only run at 1/2 throttle because the carburetor flooded.
