'88 260 merc oil??

changing the oil this week, i think it calls for 30wt? but i plan on using synthetic can i use a multi wt syn? or should i order single wt syn? (yes they make 30wt syn)

Ayuh,... It don't really Matter,... Use any 1 that fits your fancy...

The correct answer is no you can't use just any multi weight oil. Stay away from your 10w30s even 10w40s.

you need straight 30 or 40 weight depending on your location OR mercruisers 25w40 which is what I use and recommend.

It has a lot of anti corrosion additives..and the weight is made for the heavier loads boats are under.

Now having said that I don't do opinions on this anymore.

Just facts.The facts below are Mercruisers recommendation.

Here's what they say at (click here and scroll down)
This crankcase oil recommendation supersedes all previously printed crankcase oil recommendations for MerCruiser gasoline engines. The reason for this change is to include the newer engine oils that are now available in the recommendation.
If you don't want to follow what they suggest, it won't really matter. There's very few, if any marine engines that ever fail due to brand or type of oil.

They usually quit or fail from poor (or no) maintenance.

good advice, thanks guys i'll get some merc blend, ive had diesel oil (15-40) in since last summer and i need to change it
