I have an oil leak at the Lower unit right where it connects to the motor. It's seeping at the opposite side of the prop. The oil is clear and has a little water in it. I am new to boating and I need some help with terminology and maybe dating my outboard. It's mounted on an 1984 Hydra Sports VL 270 so I am going to assume that is around that year. The model num. on the data plate is scratched and is hard to read. I believe it is # JT60STLCR or J180STLCR and the serial num. is #J5983615.

Re: Johnson GT150 V6 VRO Oil Leak

Its very difficult to extract any info from your post.

What does "leaking from the opposite side of the prop" mean?
behind the prop?

if its a v6 it can't be J60

I don't know that they made a 180hp so its probably not J180 either.
Look for the welch plug on the engine, looks like a silver quarter freeze plug.

Re: Johnson GT150 V6 VRO Oil Leak

After doing more research I now know what the problem is and I was able to figure out the model number by trial and error. My lack of knowledge of boating left me unable to describe what I was trying to get across. Thanks for your help!
