I purchased a used '86 25 hp mercury outboard and noticed that on the front on the intake, there seems to be a filter or some mounting unit missing. There are two screw holes that are directly below the intake missing screws. Does anyone know if these motors have some sort of intake filter on them that screws directly into the intake? I have a feeling something is missing, but can't figure out what it is. The choke is loose as well further enhancing my curiosity. Any info. would be helpful. Thanks.

some early 25s had a silencer on the front of the carbs but I think yours was built like this with your seial number you can check for sure. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...25%2FJET+20%29

On my 1985 18hp motor, those two holes are where my choke lever attach to the carb.
