Re: Core Hull
All I can tell you is what I read over the years:
Cored hulls are common in larger boats/yachts/sailboats. End grain balsa is a common core material, and is very strong. The drawback to balsa core is if it gets wet from a puncture, it does absorb water and can rot. But there are many other materials used in cored hulls. Some others are various foams, honeycomb mats, some other stuff I just don't know what it is. Looks like a waffle.
Anyway, the best thing you can do is to spend the money on a good survey of the boat. That is no little bow rider you or your buddy can check out in half an hour. A missed defect like rotting bulkheads or stringers or separating core materials, or even poorly repaired previous damage will mean major and expensive repairs.
