what fish finder to get

would love some help on looking for a fishfinder i have a 18 foot 72 thompson ,im just a average fisherman so looking for sometin that will be easy to use from 100 to 200 $ range and where the best place u mount the transducer

I purchased a 565 last year and just love it !! I power it with the same deep cycle battery that I use to start my 25hp Merc.

a friend of mine has a Garmin 160C,he says he is happy with it,under $200 at Wal Mart

I am not sure if you are going to find much performance differences in this price range. I would recommend going to a large retailer, such as BassPro, Cabelas, etc, and look at all of them in your price range. Look at the displays in demo mode where the depth ranges are about equal to what you typically fish. Once you narrow it down to a couple/few displays you like, spend some time navigating the menus. The easist one will be the one you learn the quickest, within the time spent in the store.

One of the nice things about all the humminbirds is their mount system. All the conections are right in the mount itself so installing/taking off the FF 9for storage) is a 1/2 second task. No knobs and keyed electrical conectors to mess with. in addition, the mount swivels and tilts ( one hand) vs tilt alone.

p.s. Get the temp and speed option if you can. Both are handy features.

No matter what you buy if you have $200 buy as high as you can. A good finder will last you for years so you might as well live with one that you won't "outgrow" in six months. (from checking out the boats I have seen using the "latest" models on the cheap end are not too much different in performance than the Eagle Fish ID Pro I got in 1994 other than pixel count, but the better stuff on the low end are a HUGE improvement)

Check all the above posts for the type. I am going to buy the Hummingbird for $165. Also, the best place for the transducer is on the transom. You may already have holes there from previous mounts. If not, make sure it is properly installed. Distance from centerline, height, and proper sealant. We like to use 3m 5200 or 4200. Some folks have installed starboard (waterproof vinyl/plastic board) and mounted transducers, speed or temp units to the starboard. Good luck, let us know how you did! :)

I got a transducer in my boat, it's an Airmar 50/200 M12 1 kw transducer but I dont know what fishfinder can I use with that transducer....thanks
