I have a 1990 110hp evinrude model te110tlcem which is hard to start and then won't accelerate without stalling. If i push the throttle just a tad and then pump the bulb i can gain speed -- then I can use the key choke to get wot. No problems until I come back to idle then I start all over. I tried a different tank, hose bulb and connector and still the same. Is there anyway to know if carbs need rebuilding.

Re: acceleration issues

If it were an I/O, it would be the accelerator pump inside the carb.
I'm not familiar with Johnnies (Merc man - sorry), but it's either the fuel pump or the carb(s).

Re: acceleration issues

thanks anyway, i disconnected the fuel pump hose from the carbs and turn the key over and got fuel so i assume it is the carbs. I have a clymer manuel but it is pretty vague on trouble shooting and putting in a kit. Is there anywhere to get detailed info on rebuilding these carbs?

Buy the factory repair manual. The difference between factory and clymer for example is night and day! OMC manuals are very well written and illustrated!

This is a good article about how to clean and rebuild a carb. It isn't for your carb. but it would be a good help. I agree a factory manual is worth having. So many things covered that will save you a great deal of time and money if your going to work on your own motor. Rick.

Make sure that there is no wear/air leakage at the fuel line-motor connection.

Re: acceleration issues

Get the right manual - your model number is for 1989.

When you can get your engine to increase power by using the primer solenoid, it indicates that you are running lean, which you definitely do not want to do. Rebuild the carbs with OEM kits; the crossflow carbs are easy to do. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5cxBMDezuU

Re: acceleration issues

i have the same motor. 1989 110 Evanrude on a tracker Marine Nitro fish & ski. I also had the same problem. I found that check valve coming out of the tank was hanging up and not allowing gas through. I replaced it and I am good to go now. It is right in the elbow nipple coming out of the onboard tank. Hope yous is as easy.
