shift linkage

I have a lower unit from a 1976 200 Evinrude and a lower from a 1979 150 johnson will i have to change the shift rods or would they interchange ?? the one from 76 has the screw on collar on the top and the 150 has the curve on the top thanks for any help

They won't interchange. To install the 76 lower you'll need the shift linkage from the 76 that's mounted to the powerhead. Then you'll remove what's on the 79 and reuse the 76 linkage. Luckily the bolt hole should still be there for the 2 flat bars going under the carbs.

Then you'll need either the 76 intake manifold or cut the shift tube off of the 79 manifold. Can't remember for sure but there may be some trimming required of the lower air intake cover.
