gel coat vs top side paint

i have a 89 proline walk around cuddy im restoring and there are a lot of holes in the floor sidewalls and the dash behind the windshield where the previous owner mounted everything you can think of and i want all the holes gone and finished to a new look ive drilled all the holes to get the cracks out the gelcoat then filled with bondo glass then sanded smooth now i want to finish the surface should i by a top deck paint and paint it if so what kind or gelcoat it ive gelcoated in the past and it didnt smooth out like id like please help me out with any suggestions thanks

I would stay with a top side enamel vs. the gelcoat. Sooooo much easier to work with. Now you could go the 2 pack route ( Awlgrip, etc. ) but you'll be adding a significant cost to your project.
As always - prep is the key to a good finish job. You will need to prime over that bondo without a doubt.
Do a little reading on that Interlux site - you'll find it informative.
