33 evinrude 1968 fuel connector

When I disconnect my fuel tank from the outboard gas leaks out of the connector for several minuets, its just a small amount, but it stinks and posses a fire danger. I dont know why there isn't some sort of check valve inside to stop this. I checked all my older models and they are all the same. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks Ronnie

Well now, the original part #376154 has been changed to 393334, which as I understand, has a check valve built in. I haven't seen one, so can't say that for sure. It certainly ought to have something for the price.

Send me all your old 376154's. I need a few.

I idle and run the motor out of fuel each time at the dock or when I get home. Still have to pull the fuel line off, though if it's running it's trying to suck the fuel into the carb and doesn't leak. Most of the time I try to run the fuel out of the entire fuel line, so it's not full of gas in the garage.

Head on over to Wal-Mart and get one of their brass hose connectors meant to go in their plastic tanks. It has the check valve built in. About $5. Then head over to Ace Hardware and get the necessary brass fittings to jury-rig the Wal-Mart connector to your motor.
