I have heard it is bad to wire a boat this way. I know cars use this system. Is it true that its bad to wire a boat like this? why so?

Re: Running guages and helm functions via ignition?

If you mean the gauges are wired to the "A" (accessory) terminal on the ignition switch so they become active when the key is in the RUN position, that's the normal way to connect them and it has no affect on engine operation. If you mean the gauges should be wired to a separate switch that's rediculous. What you don't want to do is wire every accessory you have on the boat through the "A" terminal. The wire harness between the engine and the control box is not designed for that load. That's why most recreational boats have two two circuits. One is directly from the battery to the fuse panel -- sometimes through a MASTER On/Off switch, and the other path is through the engine harness.

Code:

thats what i thought too.

I planned to always wire the guages and switches via the Run position(A) on the ignition, but i saw somewhere on here that that is a big no no on boats.

Anyways, i will stick to my original plan!

Thanks
