part question

We just bought a used boat and this part is broken on both sides of an
Alpha one 4.3 I/O Mercruiser carbuerated V6 engine. We are in Oregon and not sure if the guy winterized or not. Can someone please tell me what may have caused this....it's easy enough to replace, just want to know if we should look for other things that may be wrong as well.

Attached is a picture of the broken part.

Thanks

Re: part question

looks like the bottom of manifold. The experts will chime in, in a min. But, if this is cracked then there may be more trouble to come. Have you checked the oil for water?

Re: part question

I'm no expert, but that's the water supply tee that goes in the bottom of your exhaust manifold. You should be able to find the rest in either the starboard or port side exhaust manifold... on the bottom... in the center. You should also have a water supply hose from the thermostat housing that was connected to it at one time.

No water in the oil....we think maybe the guy didn't winterize. If not and this broken is there a chance something else may be wrong. We hooked it up to the hose and ran the engine for awhile b4 purchasing and nothing else jumped out.

You won't get water in the oil till AFTER you run it. It won't happen just sitting there with no water in it.

You may have all kinds of things wrong. Replace the elbows, hook some water to it and see what happens.

Re: part question

We did run the engine for about 7 minutes b4 purchasing, no water in the oil. Not real engine savy....does the part need to be replaced first b4 we would see that?

Re: part question

Did you have water to the engine? With that part broken out, water would have went straight into the bilge.

Re: part question

When we tested it yes the water went into the bilge. So we replace the parts, hook up the engine to the hose, and look for water in the oil. How long should we run the engine? How long do we wait after to check for water? and do we just check the dipstick or someplace else?

Thank you soooo much for helping!

Ayuh,...

Due to the fact that there's Many Possible places for it to Crack,...
You Check Everywhere while it's running,... Shortly after you shut it Off,+ Later again...

Head on up to the Adults Only section of this forum,...
There's a Gold Mine of Information stored there,...
And,...
You can download a set of Factory Manuals for your driveline......;)
