I have a 1996 4.3L mercruiser with Thunderbolt V ignition. The wiring diagram shows a female electrical connector that gets a jumper that is connected to groung to set base timing at idle speed. My distributer connector has the purple/white wire, but it directly routes into a wiring harness with no female connector. The Clymers manual doesn't show a purple white wire anywhere else on the diagram (so where does it go after it goes into the harness?) I have reservations about stripping the wire and placing a jumper to ground. What am I missing?

Are you sure it is a TBV and not a TBIV?
