i have an 1989 evinrude E70TLCEM that i have had no problems with for the past three years. the other day when i trimmed the motor up this spring fell on the ground. i cannot for the life of me figure out where what it came off of and I am surely no boat mechanic. any reponse that leads me in the right direction is much appreciated

Re: spring fell off my evinrude 70

ok after further investigation i beleive this to be the trail lock spring.
the arms on either side of my trail lock are completely rusted away so i dont even think this should be a problem (it has been like that for three seasons i have had it) i just need to find out what the other side hooked to. i guess it was just hanging there all this time. what is this for anyway? once again any response (non newbie bashing of course) is appreciated

In the diagram here:

In the "Midsection" group, it shows the spring, but not exactly where it hooks up to. I suspect the bottom part of the latch may be gone, and the spring was just hanging on one of the pins.
