I have a 1999 f -250 super duty with a v-10
a lot of miles (148,000) well cared for

I'm looking at purchasing a 30 foot bayliner 3058 10' 10 beam
maybe 9,000 plus the trailer will I kill my truck?

Re: f-250 towing capacity

A quick search for the specifications shows standard tow ratings near 9000 lb and maximum tow ratings near 14000 lb, depending on the sub-model. I'm guessing the difference is some type of factory tow package. If you have it, you should be ok. If not, find out what options were in the "tow package" and consider adding or upgrading them.

You need a weight distribution hitch.

Go to a Ford dealer parts dept with your vin number. They will run it thru a computer and list all the factory equipment on the truck. Most will give you a copy of the readout, free. This allows determining the safe tow weight. Almost all the manufacturers are doing this so their parts dept can get the right parts for the service techs.Example:
My vehicle has 3 different brake pads listed. The VIN number allowed selection of the correct one.
Ford had a regular duty tow package and a H/D one. Big difference in towing capacity. Different axles, tranny, cooling, alternator and battery, suspension, yada, yada

With a 10 foot+ beam, you may not kill the truck but unless you have the permits to haul an overwidth load you would sure kill your wallet. Permits vary by state and can be restrictive as to the time of day or night you are allowed on the road. Standard load limits are 102 inches or 8 foot 6 inches.

I have the same truck, I have done a LOT of hauling, and I would not want to pull that much with my truck. If you decide to risk it, make sure you get the weight distributing hitch as Craig mentioned. As I recall the tow rating on my truck is 10,000 pounds. Your gearing may change the tow rating.

Thanks for that. I have yet to check the vin with the dealer.

I was stold that that model had up to a 15,000 lb capacity by the dealership.

Wow 15,000 is a lot.

Our 04' 2500 chevy 4x4 is only rated for 9,000 with a weight distribution hitch and trailer brakes.

I have the same truck a '99 F-250. It pulls my 27'er without question, pulls out enclosed car trailer with ease as well. I haven't had 10K+ behind it, but with upwards of 10K behind it, it does fine.
