I have a gen 2 drive with a oil res. The hose that take the gear oil from the bellhousing to the transom is leaking at where it meets up with the transom. So my question is I replaced the hose because it was cracked ... what way can I reattach the hose, the plastic clip is broken so where can I get a new one or is there a better alternative? Also, will I have to drain the drive agian or can I just top it off...

If you're talking about the hose clamps, the part number is 54-41582 5. Should be able to get them through your local mercruiser dealer, on-line, even on iboat.com Sold in packs of 5.

would normal hose clamp do the job better?

No you can overtighten them and crack the nipple. The plastic clamps work great. There is only slight pressure on the connection from the elevation of the bottle. I hope you used hose from mercruiser for the drive oil. If not I can see regular fuel line getting messed up pretty quick.
