Default so i bought my first new boat last week

it is a mfg gypsy 15 1981, with a 84? evinrude 75 hp motor,

the question is what is this called i knows its steering related, i heard its called a weld plate, but searching for it on the net has been extremly difficult, the local shop said @ 150 for it, i just wanted to see what else is out there.

Couldn't you just replace it with something like this? http://www.iboats.com/Seasense_Motor...view_id.237231

Their is wood under your floor and wood where the motor mounts. Hope its solid. Most older boats are rotted out. Not to worry you just a warning.

"Transom looks ok"

The only sure fire way to know is look at wood chips after you drill a hole, if you will be installing anything on the transom you'll have to drill a hole or 2 anyway.

when I drilled 2 small holes for my depth sounder water poured out the holes.
So I drilled a hole near the top of the transom and the wood chips were rather wet. It happens and its all fixable, but ...

thats why we're all here,
because we're not exactly "all there".
