Re: replacing year 2000 motorhead with 1990s
Really? You serious? So it can't be an older version? So, i we can only change a powerhead from 2001-2005 and has to be a FICHT type? darn.... this will put a hole in our pocket!! thanks you guys for all the help!
Ummmm....not so fast.
I just very well may be WAY wrong, but...
I recently went thru the process of studying VERY carefully the feasibility of putting a 2000 225 FFI powerhead on a 1996 200 carb'ed lower half.
It seemed that it was possible to do.
It will take some study on your part, but you can compare the engineering differences on the BRP parts website.

I found that you would have to change MINIMALLY these:
1. Powerhead
2. Exhaust adapter
3. Water plate.
From the water plate down, the midsection and exhaust seemed to bolt right up.
Additionally, you would have to deal with motor lower side covers, and motor hood.
I think it is possible to put a 1990's era carb'ed powerhead on the lower section of a 2000 FFI engine. It will take alot of work, and you will have at least $2500 in it.
You can buy a used whole complete 1990's era 225 carb'ed engine for that amount, though. You could just swap the whole motor onto your boat.
Don't go older than 1996, or the wiring harness will be different.
By the way, I canned the idea when I found out thru research, that the FFI was complicated junk. (My opinion). The 90's era 90 degree V6 carb'ed loopers were damn near bulletproof. Reliable, and easy to work on.
BRP fixed the problems in the newer ETecs and they are supposed to be great.
