I use lucas in all of my autos. I was wondering if any one has found it for the lower units on outbards.

Don't know if Lucas makes a Marine grade gear lube. Do they?

Yes, Lucas does have a gear lube that works in LU's. Yes, Lucas makes very good products. But I wouldn't use it again. I found it at Advanced Auto. Anyway, I bought & used it in my 85hp w/ no problems. However, this was before I found out that automobile lubes & marine lubes are quit different. Something about the foam created with a auto lube used in a LU that will Blow Out every seal in the LU.

Once I found this out, I wrote to Lucas explaining the potential seal problem & that their product specifically lists outboard motors on the back but it is a Auto Lube.. within a couple of days, they called me back saying I would have No problem. Again, I did not have any problems but I simply will not take any chances!

Buy Marine products for Marine use..my 2 cents.

While this probably doesn't apply today or for high performance motors.
My 55 5 hp Gale motor specifys any good grade sae 90 Hypoid gear lube.
30 SAE as a temporary replacement until suitable oil is obtained.
It appears major brand motors now pretty much recommend their brand of oil
I think I know why.wink,wink.
