On the 9.9 hp motors there is an extra section, is it possible to shorten the motor for another purpose by removing the extra section?

the extra section makes a short shaft a long shaft. shortening is possible, but depends on the way it was lenthened. some use extentions, some replace the drive shaft, shift rod, and water tubes.

Thanks, that's what I thought - Water tubes and shift rod can be cut, it's the drive shaft that might be replaced - I'll check with Yamaha

why are you asking about a Yamaha in the Johnson forum. you would get better advice in the Yamaha Forum. they are totally different. i have no idea what it takes to do a yammy.
