On the port side of the head there is a gasket that goes under the cover?
does anyone know what the part number is and what to ask for?
It is leaking when I start it up aroung the top plug.

Re: 1992 88spl

The cylinder head gasket is #318358, but it does not have anything to do with the spark plugs. Is it the water cover that is leaking or the spark plug? The water cover gasket is part number 318335.

If you go to the BRP/Evinrude site, you can click the parts diagram in the upper right corner and navigate to the parts catalog for your motor. The engine gaskets are shown on the "Cylinder and Crankcase" diagram.

Neither gasket effects the spark plug.

You sound like you need a brp #318335 cover gasket if it is leaking around the spark plug you can call and Johnson/Evinrude dealer for it.

i use a little non harden just enough to hold it on. and get it tight, they are 1/4 inch bolts into aluminum, so you want the tight, but not reamed out, or broken.
