Cool 1972 80 Mercury 2 stroke, manual tilt

I recently purchased this little boat and motor. It runs fine but is really a bear to manually tilt (no assist). Does any one know if the rams on the side are supposed to help or is there a leverage bar that fits the handles I can acquire. Any advice is appreciated.

Yes many places sell tilt assist handles and they have them here in iboats.

You keep it under the transom or stored away until you need it. Works slick!

It's either a tilt handle or you might want to join a gym !!

Those cylinders hold the motor in the down position so you can decellerate quickly w/o motor poping up. Old oMCs had mechanical locks to do the same job.

Thanks much folks. You answered my questions succinctly and to the point. The gym's not a bad idea either.
