I have a 1975 evinrude 15 hp 2 stroke outboard . It will start and run about 2 minutes , but then it stalls and floods out . If I disconnect the gas hose it will start again and run again , but about a minute after I reconnect the hose it will stall again . If I don't reconnect the hose it will run til it runs out of gas . I would appreciate any feedback . Thank you ,Ken . Also on the same motor the pull rope won't return all the way in . Thanks again

Re: problems with 15 hp evinrude

Could be three things, Ken. All associated with fuel level control in the carb bowl.

* Incorrect setting on float height.
* Float sinking.
* Float needle valve leaking.

Return spring for the recoil starter needs another turn or two of preload. Do not attempt this without a Service Manual!!

Good luck. :)

You do have the vent on the tank open, right? If so, follow JB's advice and go through the fuel system...from tank to carb. Your recoil spring may need another turn of preload, as stated, or it may just be really cruddy/dirty. I've saved myself the nightmare of replacing several recoil springs by simply pulling the recoil mech, cleaning and re-lubing it. If it is the spring...by all means have a manual on hand to guide you and be extremely careful in the repair. Those springs can bite!
