tach operates off rectifier, not coils. yes, it is possible, logical maybe. i personally do not like gadgets, something else to break and irritate you.
Thanks for the Info, I know what you mean about something else to break and irritate you. I am in the middle of re-painting this engine, Black bottom, gray cover, going to look great.
I consider a tach to be one accessory that should be installed, if possible. It allows you to select the correct prop for your boat, and helps you find a "sweet spot" for your motor, where reduced rpm gives you a nice balance between speed and fuel consumption.
