how do i set base timing 5.0lgi

i just put in a new engine for a friend and need to set base timing on a 2000
volvo 5.0l gi . i need to know what wires on distributer to do what with so i can set timing . any help please !!!

Once that shunt is in there, it's just like normal timing.

can the same method be applyed to a 1998 5.7 mercruiser?

if not is there any way to bypass the ignition advance?

Yes, exactly. I used those images, provided by a fellow iboater, to adjust the timing om my 1997 Mercruiser 5.7LX EFI Gen +.
