I have an 03' 200 hp Yamaha SWS that has been a real jewel for six seasons now. I am in the Florida panhandle and after the freezing weather of last week, I noticed some black grease/oil on the of the lower unit just above the level of the cavition plate. Tracing it up, it appears to have come from grease joints above and below the steering shaft. (grease nipples) Also a bit from the area where the drive shaft comes out of the block. I can tell you what it is not. The inside of cowl under the oil pump and tank are dry. No discernable problems there. I wondered if anyone knew another potential scource. Could old grease freak out and flow like that. I have never seen it before. Thanks All

Re: Mystery Grease

Hello grease do not flow in the cold weather you must have some liquid leak. do you have an oil tank inside the cowling?Cold weather will make rubber seals shrink and that could cause leaks good luck
