Mounting fish finder transducer inside hull of aluminum boat
Hi,
I just purchased a fish finder and was wondering if anybody knows if it's a good idea to mount the transducer inside the hull of my aluminum boat. It says in the instructions that it produces good results on a single layer fiberglass boat, but I was wondering if anybody has tried it on an aluminum boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ditto, not happening. Metal is way to dense to pass the signal.
You need to hang a xducer off the transom. Use 3m 5200 to glue a piece of sealed wood/ starboard to the transom and screw your transducer there. That way, you don't have to poke a hole in the boat.
Re: Mounting fish finder transducer inside hull of aluminum boat
On an Aluminum boat I would use a 3/8 to 1/2 half aluminum block instead of wood or starboard. Also I used plain Silcone seal on my Aluminum boat back in 1981. I might use 4200 but to me 5200 would be too hard to remove if you wanted to move. Also do not mount the transducer too far from the motor. 18 inches out is more than enough.
I always find next to the pitot tube is a good spot. If you mount too close to the chines then at plaining speed you will find you loose bottom because too much air under the transducer.

Theres transducers that shoot through aluminum hulls.
What type of fishfinder do you have, check out Alumaducer(google).
I don't own one but I have read good reveiws on other sites.
Sorry it was Alumaducer.Heard reveiws from express boat users and they were happy with it.Goes through,up to .150 gauge with no signal loss.
