I know I am going to get flamed:D.If I change out my pre alpha outdrive to an alpha, do I need to change out my gimbal and transom plate ? Or are they the same or cross usable? Or what If I buy a new prealpha out drive from Iboats? Are there any other cheaper places to buy drives?

You might take a look at Stern Drive Engr drives. I think they are backwards compatible.....They can tell you what you need.

Ayuh,... Basically they're interchangeable....

Although I don't remember how Old your's is...
The really Old 1s are different....

1 glitch you're going to run into is,..
The Input shafts on the pre-alpha In-line motors is the shorter 8" 1....
What's now the Standard input shaft is about 9"....

You can get a sterndrive engineering outdrive ordered with whatever ratio and shaft length you need, and like the above posters say, it should bolt right up.
