Plexiglass Taylor Made Windshield - Replacement Frame?

I have the original Taylor Made plexiglass windshield (removed) from my 1957 Duratech. It does not have the aluminum trim that would have edged the top, or maybe it never had this? It's pretty flexible without this. I can find replacement hardware for mounting the windshield back on the boat but have not found any material for edging the top, or is this even feasible? Any ideas out there? I also would have to buff it to remove surface scratches, if that is feasible.

For a trim piece visit a glass shop and see what they have in stock for frame materials....

You can polish plexi but you have to do it with care. Look at this site and they sell plastic polishing stuff or you can purchase Plexi polish at any motorcycle dealer too http://www.aircraftpolish.com/interesting pics.html

I have read around and 3M makes a three part system that supposedly works wonders and it is super cheap.

I had an old Duratech too, cool boat ,very light . Thumbs up there!

I found this guy on ebay perhaps he can help you ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...70333627789&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

I myself am looking for the white vinyl stipping for mounting an old taylor made windshield . My old one is hard and weathered and needs replacing. I contacted this guy on ebay as he sells replacement windshields which might be an option for some with deeper pockets than mine. He has the vinyl I need to but is asking $20 !

that seems outrageous to me for something I am sure there is a huge spool of somewhere waiting for me to find it for pennies on that dollar. If I can't though I guess I'll have to buy his. I was told at Boat World by this guy that use to install auto windshields that they carry something like that called flexi-trim or something, so I might go asking around town. Been to the glass shops and they don't have anything like it .

good luck , and what model is your duratech? any pictures?

Thanks for the replys everyone.

Here is another ebay source for the gasket material for the windshield bottom:

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/A-A-Mar...Z12QQ_sidZ18376418QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

He has a few types but one has slots so you can mount attachments through gasket.

If you are interested in pics of my Duratech they all can be found at http://talleyman.spaces.live.com (including pics of my motor I'm going to restore for this). I'm not doing so good yet at inserting a pic directly in a reply.

Taylor Made's windshield plant continues to operate today, in Gloversville, NY.
I used to be at the plant several times a week on business, and know they retain tooling and parts from way back.
I'd try to talk with tec support for parts availability or referral
Don't have a link or # for you, but easy enough to find
