Ok, I am looking a buying a used 1994 Honda BF 15 hp motor. I am getting a pretty good deal at 600 dollars, I think. My questions Is are there any particular problem areas in this model I need to look for? Also does anyone have any experiences with this motor? If so do you think that if the motor is in running condition that I am getting a good deal?
Here is a copy of the email the guy sent me on what is included, 1994 15 HP Honda 4 stroke outboard motor with a fuel tank and fuel hose. Includes spares: engine flushing attachment(brass), aluminum prop, new(never used) ignition module, fuel filters, waterpump impellor, sparkplugs, carb jets and factory manual. Motor starts and runs, manual(rope) start only and has 12VDC output for battery charging.
Here are the Pictures he sent.

Re: BF 15 Is this worth the $$$

Hi there! I have a 2000 BF75, and I will never buy anything other than Honda again!!! I was given a little 9.5 evinrude, so I'm fixing it up, but for my 2cents you cannot get a better motor than a Honda. I also have a honda lawn mower, and generator.....I might have some questions about how the cowl got so beat up, and the fact that he has spare parts can be a good sign ( that he takes pride in maintaining it ) or bad....as in it's a lemon that goes through parts. Ultimately, if you're shelling out 600 clams he should at least let you throw a compression tester on it. I had to take my BF75 in to have the valves set after its initial break in period (as per the manual), and the dealer told me it was nice to meet me for the first and last time!! LOL It's true!! since then I've bought fuel and oil filters, and a spare set of plugs. Hondas are made to last!!!! good luck

Having a "new ignition module" would concern me. It suggests that the guy had problems, bought a new module, but that didn't fix the problem.

Ask the guy "what the final fix was...or does it still have issues!"

Also, ask the guy if you can do a compression test on the motor...that will tell a lot about the health of the motor!
