Re: Silverballi, who can tell me more?
10 months late, but I know a few things about silver bali.Hardwood from Guianna (spell?).Comes in different qualities.25 years ago I was in Bequia while Bob Dylans schooner Waterpearl was being built.Planked and decked with SB. SB was high qualitythen. So good that even the sap wood was used. It is a stable wood, has a strong resiny smell yet takes epoxe well.I strip planked a 35'er with it ,using WEST..Spoke with Carriacou shipwright last year who said quality had gone down.Weights vary , good heartwood is around50 lbs per cube ft, sapwood (lighter in color) can be as light as 30. To sum up, if you have good quality,it is top rated for decks. ps,waterpearl was wrecked in Panama around'81.
