The screw type clamps are frowned upon. I hated to see the spring type clamps go, but the plastic ones are OK. I still salvage any spring clamps I find. When it comes right down to it, the fit of the hose on the nipple is what counts. Clamps shouldn't be relied upon to stop a leak. They are more for keeping the hose from blowing off.
