Iv'e been reading various sites where people are talking about blueprinting racing boat hulls to get a few more mph from them. Could I get some definitions of terms I have run across, and what exactly they are talking about? These for now:

Sharpening Strakes and Chines,
Putting sharp edges on the hull
Sponsons

Thanks

Sharpening Strakes and Chines,
Simply making all of the longitudinal edges more crisp. The Chine is the main line defining a V-hull bottom from it's sides. Strakes are the raised lines between the keel and the chine.

Putting sharp edges on the hull
Same

Sponsons can be the "tines" on "Pickle fork" Hydroplane. Also the word can be used to describe the individual hulls of a tunnel or catamaran.

oops!

Hard lines help stabilize the boat at higher speeds. But it's always a comprise with turning. You mileage will vary depending on testosterone level.
