mercury thermostat

i have a 50 hp thunderbolt blue band the original design power head, it wont pump water and the manual says to check the thermostat but i cant locate it.

You must have a aftermarket manual because it don't have a thermostat

well sorry to say im in new zealand, the manual was printed in caifornia U S of A. by Seloc publications. so am i correct in asuming that ealier models dont have thermostats.?

sorry im unsure, it is pre 1985, i have removed the head cover and the exhaust covers and there is no sign, do pre 80 models not have one?
