Closing all 567 stores and liquidating the merchandise. May be some good deals in there.

That's been the writing on the wall for quite some time now (almost a years)...... I thought they were just going bankrupt and re-organizing.

Quite frankly they made my boycott list when they collaborated with that DIVX stunt. While I'm not happy about the state of the economy and the results it is having on retailers (et.al.) in general, this is one instance I will shed no tears.

Be careful you know what the orginial prices are for things that are being closed out. When the outside companies come, many times they actually raise the prices, hiding the orginal price under the new sticker.

The liquidators bring in the manufacturers junk, repacks and all the crap from the other retailers and sell it at 90% percent off marked up inflated retail.

this is the employer that told its employees one friday your all fired, but you can reapply tomorrow for new positions and a new wage plan.

Skirted all the labor laws about laying off, so they thought, most states filed law suits, this employer will not be missed in the long run.

Even though I work for their competition I still feel bad for the 30,000 employees that no longer have jobs......and who can no longer contribute to the economy.

I now look foreward to my stocks to fall quite a bit.......

Yep!

When Mervyns went out of business last month we stopped in to have a look-see, out Christmas shopping. Store was trashed and the prices were outrageous, 5 minutes and we were out of there.

Even though I could use a new LCD TV, I won't be checking out Circuit City...

They will not be missed here, the last time I was in one of there stores the prices were higher than the competitors. Also they in the last couple of years bought a place here that was out selling them and closed it, what goes around comes around. And I also feel for the workers, bad time right now to be looking for work! But I wont be going to there liquidation sale!

I didn't even know about the way the company behaved. Never bought anything in there. We have one about 5 miles from me maybe closer.

As stated before i feel for the 3000 family's, the company don't feel for them.

Warranty will be covered by the manufacturer.
Hopefully, you didn't purchase an extended policy.

Accodrding to their website, extended warrentys are covered by a third party, and will still be honored. Also, you can still return items bought pre-bankrupt for 14 days.

I rarely bought at CC, because I could never get help, and on those rare occasions that you were waited on, it was some kid that had no idea what he was talking about.

Had to buy a laptop in November, went to CC, and never was waited on. Two employees were playing on a laptop. I asked them for help, but they were from another department. Luckily, Best Buy was across the street.

Re: Circuit City is closing

I went there today thinking it may have a nice 40%+ off banner across the entrance. No banner. Went inside thinking I'd see red stickers everywhere. No red stickers. There was a decent deal on a 65" Mitsubishi DLP ($975). Other than that not a single item was even marked down a penny. Everything was still at full inflated retail with the single addition of signs saying "all sales final".

It's no shock why some places go out of business. That place looked like a blood red dungeon for it's entire existance. Any idiot can tell you red is the worst color in retail.

I bought a TV there in 1987. They were pretty new then and quite the rage for good electronics prices. I've been back several times, in my current location, but better deals were to be had elsewhere.

Re: Circuit City is closing

They started building their coffin a few years ago when they decided to fire all their employees that made over $10 an hour......which usually just so happens to be the best employees. Many of them now work at Best Buy, and I have heard first hand how that company operated. I know that some of their managers were pocketing rebates and not informing customers that they even existed.

What scares me to death is 5 years ago when I started with Best Buy, Circuit City was the top dog, and its sickening to see how fast the market can collapse on you when you mismanage a company. Plus its not like they were new.....they are older that Best Buy.....I mean they were in the business for 60 years.

Re: Circuit City is closing

I agree they have been on a steady decent for about 4 years. The one down the street from my house closed about a month ago. They had sales but even the so called closeout prices were only about 5-10% lower than best buy because they have such inflated prices to start with and if you have a problem with an item you purchase from them you have to deal with the manufacture. When i went in there there was a line of angry customers with defective floor models sold as new to customers(boxed back up) and the managers had the local police dept escorting people out that got screwed. id be careful what you buy from them.

I worked at Circuit City as my first job. I hated the job, I hated the people I worked with, I hated everything about that place. Good riddance, CC!! You guys flat out suck.
