Mercury Regulator

Hi,

I am trying to locate a regulator for my 150Hp Merc and was hoping some one could point me in the right direction. I have spent the last couple of days scouring the web for a reasonably priced replacement with no luck at all.

The part is doing its job; just the tacho side of it is not working. I really don't want to spend AU$600 - AU$800 for a new part but I would like to have the tacho working.

If any one knows of a wrecker that may have one I would really appreciate the lead or if someone has one lying around and is willing to part with it I would be happy to strike a deal where we both win.

Robbie, You can hook the tach lead to either of the yellow stator wires at the rogulator. They provide the signal to the tach. As long as the VR is working, you should be fine.

CDI likely makes a replacement VR, and it wil be in the US$200-250 range.

Thats the problem with these units they where only used certain years and CDI does make a kit,#174-9610A18 and it is $600.00. This motor only has a 2 wire stator,if it was the 4 wire he could get by with the regulator kit.

Fastbullet, How about if he made a rudimentary VR with a bridge rectifier and a heavy duty 13-14V Zener Diode? It is really a voltage cut out device, but it would only cost a few $.

That might work but he has the 2 wire stator that dumps 40 amps +,the newer stators is 2 single 20 amp circuits,thus dual rect/reg. How would you dump the heat??

If you could find a zener diode(or two) that can handle near the 40Amps charging current, you could bolt it to the exhaust cover to keep it cool.
