Can anyone help. I have a 76 Johnson 25HP just been fully serviced by me. Day before yesterday, running great. Yesterday, weird intermitant power problem. Engine runs perfectly, but about every 5-7 seconds there is a hickup, almost like there is no spark for a microsecond. Sounds like hummmmmm---hummmmmm---hummmmmm--etc. Makes the engine kick every time it happens. Does it at high or low speed. No sign of this the previous day.

Apart from that engine runs perfectly, gets you home fast, doesn't cut out etc good perfomance and fuel consumption. Have just done new points and condensors, carb kit, check gaps, new spark plugs etc etc. Anyone got any ideas? Almost like it is losing earth or something for a nanosecond, seems to be both cylinders.

Check the fuel system end to end for an air leak.

Check your plug wires for cracks, maybe even running it at night with the cover off to check for arcing.
Just an idea,

You might see if a little choke helps. Is it a skip or does it feel like it hits something?
