Welcome to iboats.

DO you have a model number so that we can pinpoint a year for you to start.

You may have to add a fuel pump if you want to use a modern, single fuel line, fuel system.

If you have no fuel pump you will have a triangular shaped connector on the engine for the double line system. One line carries pressure to the tank to pressurize it and the other carries fuel to the carburetor.

Double lines and tanks with the correct fitting can usually be found on eBay.

I recommend adding a fuel pump and using modern single lines and tanks. I think there is an article on how to do it in the Engine FAQs Forum.

Good luck. :)

Any OMC tank from that year, will latch on to that 18 of yours. However, a lot of us would agree, that it would be better to convert that baby to a more modern single line tank set up. A lot of the guys swear by the Mikuni fuel pump and I agree with them. I bought one myself to put on a 1953 25hp.

the problem with the 18hp is finding the correct, bypass cover with the mounting bosses. there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 2 lines system. the tanks are for sale on ebay used, ranging from $20-$100. laingsoutboards.com has the rebuild kits for the tanks.

true the mikuni pump will work also, but many have messed up motors trying to convert.

either way you go the cost is going to be really close.
