I would like to buy a merc500E the white type from 1961. The guy is telling me the engine is very rare so he askes 3800USD the engine is overhauled , in working condition and it has even spare parts including a 2 engine .
I have found a discription at oldmers dot com 1961merc500


What do you guys think, is it worth it or is he asking way to much?

I guess it depends on your location and how bad you want it.

Me, myself, I probably wouldn't give more than $500 for one in perfect shape, even with spares.
