Packard wire connector?

1970 40hp Big Twin Model 40052a. Fixing to rewire. I have the OEM Service manual with wiring diagram. On the purple/white wire going from the internal wiring harness to the choke solenoid there is a wire connector that I think is called a packard? Same situation with a black wire going up to the magneto. What is it's purpose of this connector? I have to assume that there are times when you would want to disconnect it but I don't know when that would be. What problems would come with not replacing this connector when I rewire?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: Packard wire connector?

if you need to remove the motor to work on either the motor or the boat. there are many motors wired direct.
