Default Mercury style Filter head connection question

I ordered this Moeller fuel filter. Its a Racor style filter with the clear bowl and drain below. It uses the common Mercury style spin on head with 4 ports. Can anyone tell me if a set of in/out ports are on each side, or are both "in" on one side and both "out" on the other side?

Unfortunatelly, Moeller does not specify on their website.

As a general rule filter heads are in on one side and out on the other side, if you look at the bottom of the head where the filter goes you should be able to tell from that. Also the in and out are usually marked on the head, may not on this one, but usually they are.

Sometimes you just have to keep on digging.

I called Moeller customer service, and the rep told me that both are in or out, but not in and out on same side. Hmmm.... Something told me it just didn't make sense to have two ports on each side and both to be in the same direction.

So I check around the Moeller site, and finally found a high res photo of the filter. When zoomed in on, it is clear that there are both in and out arrows cast in the filter head on each side.

So for now, the location I picked to mount the filter is still OK assuming the photo above is correct. I guess the install directions that come with the unit will be the final word.

Geez, I think I am getting obsessed with this boat.

They are using the ports next to the mount as in and the two outer as out, I can see the arrows also, just be sure that fuel in and fuel out are in the correct port as that is the way the filter is designed to work and you should be good.

Be sure that you have the 'correct' bowl on the bottom of the filter...clear plastic is only legal for use with an outboard engine.

Inboards, and I/O's, must have the metal bottom bowls...and the Coast Guard WILL be looking for this!
