I have a 2004 75hp merc outboard on my 170cc sea pro that the steering has seized up on me. It appears to be siezed inside the tilt tube. I was trying to free it up until the steering cable come apart
(the plastic outer insulator pulled out of the crimped sleeve) under the console at the steering box. I assume I will have to replace the whole assembly now but I dont know how to disconnect it from the engine?? I took the big nut that attaches the cable to the motor loose, but how does the rod that runs up inside the tilt tube come apart?? Do I have to get the shaft unsiezed and then the whole thing will slide out ??? I greatly appreciate any advice.
