Well, one of the minor flaws of our boat is the only helm is on the flybridge, which is fine, but it would be nice to have one in the cabin. I know you can spend $7000 and rig electric throttle and shift and steering, but we dont have $7000 for that, and wondering what the cheaper alternatives are?

running dual merc 350's with mixed throttle/shift per engine.(1 stick controls both functions for 1 engine) Hydraulic unasisted steering

on the cheap?
-Mount controls on fly-bridge floor...
-Drill two 4" holes in the ceiling of the inside of the boat below the controls on the fly-bridge.
-Place a stool below the holes
-Stand on the stool, reach up through the holes, grab the steering wheel and throttle/shifters and drive the boat!
Estimated time is about an hour and costs about $20 (unless you have an old stool)

Re: Installing Second helm station on a budget

I wish I had taken pictures of my setup before pulling it out :(
I am going from dual to single station on a 26' Mariner.

On my system it was cable controls for the engines and hydraulic for the
steering , long cable to the main controls then short cable from the main
to the secondary controls.

The steering where hydraulic lines that would go from the ram in the back
to the steering pump in the cabin then the lines would go from the cabin
to the command bridge steering pump, the filler is on the highest point in
the circuit.

If I have a slow Friday I will try to draw a picture (don't expect much if I can)
